Happy New Year! As we look to the year ahead; let’s start with the foundation. A foundation is a basis upon which something stands or is supported. What are you building your foundation on? Past hurts, regrets, or good intentions? Your accomplishments, beauty, or likes on social media? Most Christians would exclaim “No Way!” But, are we really living by God’s standard and being obedient to all that He is asking? (Eh.) We know that we fall short. The Apostle Paul tells us how to be wise builders:
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. Luke 6: 46-48 (NIV)
In 2017, let’s build our foundation on Jesus Christ, His will, and His way for our lives. We have to allow His word to transform our heart, our words, our conduct. If we build our life on fear, let’s course correct and build on prayer and seeking Him for wisdom. If we build our life on past hurts, let’s forgive in 2017. Life is so short. If we build our life on vain pursuits, let’s build this year on the chief cornerstone.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundationof the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. Ephesians 2:19 (NIV)
